Reads and Thoughts

Ola! I'm one of those crazy girls who is overly addictive to books and reading. I'm weird around books and tends to read them abnormally fast. And I'm a hopeful romantic who is a firm believer of Happily Ever Afters.
My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century (My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, #1) - Rachel Harris Renaissance Italy, time travelling, romance, pretty vintage dresses and a little complication here and there, what more could you ask for?

Mu Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is another story set on one of my dream places - Italy! Now, I'm not really a historical buff but the Renaissance era fascinates me. There's something elegant at the same time mysterious feel about it. A lot of things happened during that era that marks the evolution of certain things. So with Italy and Renaissance, its enough for me to really push hard on reading this book and truly I get to see more the life of Italy during this certain era.

Cat Crawford is the main character and she's definitely killing the sarcastic attitude. I immediately love her character at the first chapter after witnessing her sarcastic remarks on things. She's a Hollywood girl with a famous Hollywood director father and scandalous mother. She has the attention of paparazzi but she definitely loathes it. She has no friends and mainly relies on her father to be her friend. She’s a girl who simply wants to be herself without the expectations and preconceived notions from people around her but that would be very hard since she is already part of the life her dad made up. She couldn’t let herself be close and fall for other people because she believes that that person would eventually leave. But as the story goes on, she starts to change and comes out of her own shell with the help of her cousins of the past. She learned that she needs to be willing to fail in order for her to succeed. That she can’t control everything and that it’s definitely okay to make a few mistakes occasionally. I really loved seeing her try to deal with things from the past compared to the things she get used to in modern times. And she's one quirky storyteller!!

The other characters are all so memorable and likeable. Alessandra was one wide dreamer. She wants to be an actress but can’t pursue it since during that era, ladies were not allowed on stage. She's pretty adorable and I really liked how she bonded with Cat. Cipriano was Alessandra's brother and though he's not that older than them he acts and speaks matured. Then there’s Lorenzo, the love interest. Ooookay, many girls would swoon with him. That’s it. At first, I thought he's also a guy from the modern times. I don’t know I just have that certain feel at it at first.lol. Anyways, he's also an artist like Cat which makes them fall closer to each other though Cat tries her best not to fall for him. But it doesn’t take that long for them realize what would truly happen. Their interaction was always full of sweet nothings, tingling and anticipation. Yay! I'm pretty much excited for the both of them.

The story flow was pretty enjoying. It's not dragging and boring at all. The time travel thing happened instantly and her journey on the past begins. The back stories regarding Cat and her mom issues and other stuffs were well supplemented as the story goes on. Little snippets of it were drafted throughout the story.

Of course it was not a perfectly written one; it has its flaws because I myself find something a bit off. One thing was the presence of Cat's modern gadgets (iPod and Cellphone), okay I get that she wants to experience that past life or such but upon arriving on the past didn’t she have that urgent feel to call his father if her phone was really working? Because if I was the one on her position the first possible thing I would do was freak out. Oh and her gadgets didn’t seem to run-out of battery and such. Tada! Magic. Even her modern actions and language that are acted didn’t seem to get that much attention from her past family member. Some were noticed but most were not. And Because of those the certain realistic feel of the story seems to fade away from me. But hey! It's not that big deal but a little clariying with it would be nice. :)

Overall, it was a really nice easy read. It was nice meeting all the good and great characters, great setting and the romance was so cheesy that I love it. Yay! Can't wait for more Cat Crawford invasion on its book 2!
