“I am coming to terms with the fact that loving someone requires a leap of faith, and that a soft landing is never guaranteed.”Since this year started I've already read tons of books with different stories, genres and from different authors. I've been seeing Sarah Dessen books always lurking and making an appearance in every bookstore I've been too and I don’t really know what's with me not picking up any of them until last 2 weeks ago. I know, people might think I'm kinda late for entering this
Sarah Dessen Land just now, but hey, it’s never too late for that. This Lullaby is the first one I tried and I’m really glad to say that this will be not the last book of hers that I would read.
Remy doesn’t mess around with relationships. After watching her mother jump from Husband one-two-three-four and the start of the fifth one, it’s no wonder she has an issue with relationships. This summer, she and her friends planned that there is going to be nothing but fun and her mother's fifth wedding, (of course), until Dexter arrived and nothing prepared Remy for him. He would do anything to win her attention and adoration and Remy herself can’t believe that she's coping up with him - the exact opposite of what she tries to avoid and what she really doesn’t want. But sometimes in love, no matter how many rules you impose and how many things you planned, they don’t just always go as it is...
Remy is the kind of character who has a lot of issues within her. She may get on my nerves from time to time but I still like her. She pushes everyone away and with her relationships she has this deadline. She was always on the run and the idea of something permanent scared her thinking that they might still leave. But the good thing with Remy’s character is the way she redeems herself by the end of it. She may come aloof and selfish and hateful, but when things call for it, she can also be sweet, caring and even funny.
Dexter on the other hand is the quirky, messy, gangly and the too persistent but still endearing boy. His persistence with Remy is so nice and how he collided on her life just blew my mind off and I just can't help but smile whenever he says something. He's very sweet and funny. I really loved how he slowly broke down Remy's walls without her noticing it. I loved how he makes her crazy. He may not be the perfectly handsome-pressed clothing-type of guy, but for me, his rugged and a little messy look complete his whole profile.
You might find the beginning of this book a bit dragging but as I go on with reading it and the characters and the story begins to set in to me, I just can't help but read it all throughout. The twists and turns and the unpredictability of its characters really caught me off-guard.
Very much endearing and Lovable. Everything just kept my attention and the swoony but a little cliff-hanger parts are great. Everything is at its right place and now I know why a lot of people loved Sarah Dessen and her novels and for me, this is just the start of my journey to the
Sarah Dessen Land. :)
